Just to clarify about my comment in the last paragraph, it wasn't directed at you and I apologise if it was construed that way, just a general comment that many weblogs do promote Firefox that way and it's hard-coded into the site software and not necessarily the view of the site owner which I think is unfortunate.

At the opposite end of the spectrum alot of commercial sites are set up to work properly only in IE and this is equally as bad. I am with you on one thing and that is that people should be free to use what they like without being badgered. Not sure if there's a way to achieve that though.

Thankyou for the feedback. :-)

Hi, thanks for posting. I suppose I should clarify some of my comments a bit.

1. When I said "This is one piece of software that Google got right" I meant by adding it to their Google Pack, not by developing it.

2. When I talk about customizing Firefox, I'm referring to great extensions like Sage, Greasemonkey, X-Ray, or the del.icio.us plug-in. They have dozens and dozens of great add-ons for a large variety of tasks. Tabbed browsing is just an added plus.

3. I'm not sure if your last paragraph was directed at me or not. I should say though that I am far from a Microsoft hater. IE7 will have tabbed browsing as well as the others you mentioned. If it's a better browser I will have no problem switching to IE7. I just love the functionality Firefox offers. I've never been a big fan of Opera, but that's just my personal opinion.

4. And lastly I would never try to force software down any ones throat. They are free to use what ever they want. On the other hand I don't think expressing my opinion on software that I like is a bad thing considering the amount of time I log in front of a computer and on the net.

Hope I cleared some of this up. Thanks for stopping by.

"A definite must have for the internet warrior. Firefox is a very customizable and secure web browser. This is one piece of software that Google got right."

Google didn't get it right, Mozilla wrote and ditribute Firefox, not Google. Google just supplies the pesky toolbar.

In addition, Firefox might be "customisable" but only to a point, like any software - it's far from being the be all and end all and Firefox still suffers from a variety of security problems, not necessarily the same ones that IE, Netscape, Opera, etc have but still enough to draw a conclusion that it is no more or less secure than anything else out there. In addition, IE7 is now out in beta form and has tabbed browsing. The latest versions of Opera and Netscape have tabbed browsing in place and all except Opera have an RSS reader, for those that prefer boring-looking lists of links to a graphically rich and well-made website.

When looking at most weblog software one can usually find the smartarse commenting in the site's code by the author, to the tune of, "tell your visitors to get Firefox". Many gullible webloggers adopt this script kiddie toolshop attitude and it detracts from the potential acceptance of a website by visitors. Visitors don't like being told what they should use so this wank of an attitude is not going to impress, is it?
