Okay, this is very weird. It’s the original Star Wars holiday special starring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, et al…, which aired, just once, on November 17th, 1978. I was a shade under 5 years old.

“Why is it so weird?”, you may ask. This holiday special from hell has managed to embed itself in some sinister recurring dream I’ve had to endure over the course of my entire life. And honestly, seeing it again kind of freaks me out.

Enjoy!

Google launches Chrome – I wanted to wait until I had some alone time with this browser before I wrote about it. It’s very sleek and super fast, especially if you use a lot of Google’s services (which I do). There is a darkside however. For you security consciousness people out there, you may want to check out Steve Gibson’s security podcast, aptly named Security Now. I’ll be sticking with Firefox for the time being.

Ubiquity, yet another reason not to ditch Firefox. – As you all know, another reason why Firefox is so near and dear to our hearts is because of all the great extensions available for it. Ubiquity is just another fine example of what a great extension can do for you. It has sped up my surfing by 28.37%, no kidding. Install it, check out the tutorial, and take it for a spin.

Google to Acquire Valve? – Say What? I’ll believe it when I see it. If you don’t know who Valve is, don’t bother clicking the link. If you don’t know who Google is, get off my site.

Amazon buys Shelfari. – Old news, I know, but I’m still excited. One of the reasons I stuck with Shelfari over Goodreads was the fact that Amazon was an investor in the company. Now that they own it, let all the Amazon goodness ooze right down onto it. Oh, and check out my shelf. Sweet stuff there.

I’ve been using runningmap.com – This isn’t new either, but it’s new to me. I thought I’d throw this out there to my fellow runners. This is what I ran today.

Where to begin?

Battlestar Galactica Razor was great, although, I was under the impression that it was the season premier. It wasn’t. Needless to say, I was a little <del datetime="2007-12-11T01:52:22+00:00">bummed</del> <del datetime="2007-12-11T01:52:22+00:00">saddened</del> annoyed when I found out I have to wait until March for the next episode. Boo! A year and a half between seasons? This better be the best season EVER!

–

Tin Man sucked. I hate giving negative reviews, but I just couldn’t sit through it. In all fairness though, I’m a pretty harsh critic. I hated Firefly when I first watched it too, now it’s one of my favorite television shows ever. I’ll probably give it another shot, someday.

–

Facebook. Facebook. Facebook. I just don’t understand the hype, I really never have. I get that it’s a great social network, but isn’t that all it is? How can it possibly be compared to Google? How can it possibly be valued at 15 billion dollars? What’s going to happen to it when the next great social network comes along and people leave Facebook in droves in favor of the latest and greatest social phenomenon. 15 billion? Don’t get me wrong, I think Facebook is great and they’re really coming out with some innovative stuff, but it’s just a social network. Internet platform you say? I seriously doubt it, it’s far too proprietary for an internet platform. Open it up and we’ll see, but until then, let’s ease up on the hype a little. This is the kind of crap that makes bubbles burst.

–

I recently finished David Allen’s book, Getting Things Done. I really enjoyed it. I’ve been GTDing now for about 3 weeks and I can already see the benefits. Granted, I didn’t really have a productivity philosophy before this, so I guess it had no choice but to help me. Regardless, the community is great and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to tighten up their organizational habits.

–

I just found out that the author of one of my favorite blogs, healthbolt.net, will no longer be writing for said blog. Nooo! I’ve recommended this blog to oodles and oodles of people. Sara Ost, said author of said blog, is moving on to bigger and better things. What kind of things? I have no idea, but I’ve already subscribed to her new blog and await her witty remarks with bated breathe. Seriously though, I read a ton of blogs, and Sara’s writing style is among my favorites. I’m curious to see what she’s got up her sleeve. >>>> saraost.com.

–

Cam is getting Mario Galaxy for Christmas. Sweeet. I can’t wait <del datetime="2007-12-11T03:07:09+00:00">to try it</del> for her to try it out. I also bought her another controller so I can kick her ass in Tennis. I don’t care if she’s nine, she’s going down!

–

Okay, that should do it for now. Oh yeah, I’m going to see “I am Legend” Friday with MLL. I’ll let you know what I think. I’ve been dying for a good movie lately so cross your fingers.

The Boston Globe ran a story today about a Pediatrician who was betrayed by his very own blog while defending himself in a malpractice suit involving the death of one of his patients.

His name is Robert P. Lindeman. Apparently, the case was leaning in his favor, at least until the opposing counsel sprung the following question:

“Was Lindeman Flea?”

At the time, the jury had no idea what this meant. It turns out that Dr. Lindeman had a blog, and on this blog he went by the name Flea. This obviously isn’t bad by itself, but what he was writing on his blog was a bit of a shocker. According the Boston Globe, Lindeman scoffed at the plaintiff’s case and the plaintiff’s lawyer. He wrote things like the jury was dozing. He even revealed what their defense strategy was.

Needless to say, the defense quickly settled the next day.

I don’t usually write about stories like this, but this one caught my attention. Probably because of a discussion I had a month ago with a friend of mine who was stating the reasons why NOT to blog. One of his arguments was that you can get busted for things that you don’t want other people to find out. He’s not the only one with this view either. But that’s no reason why NOT blog. Just don’t blog about stuff you shouldn’t be blogging about, e.g., the details of an on going court case that you happen to be a part of. If you’re going to blog about something, or comment about something, or post about something, or……almost any case where you add something to the almighty Internet, assume anyone can get a hold of that information. Because for all intents and purposes, they can.

I was shopping around for new domain names, as I do from time to time, and I thought I’d check on sinclaire.com. I already own robertsinclaire.com, my name, but I thought that sinclaire.com would make a nice addition to my ever growing domain name collection. As suspected, the name was already snatched up. But what I found interesting, and disturbing at the same time, was GoDaddy’s list of recommended domain names — just for me.

A search for SINCLAIRE.com prompted GoDaddy to recommend these alternate domain names:

ERRORCLAIRE.COM
TRANSGRESSIONCLAIRE.COM
WRONGDOINGCLAIRE.COM
MISDEEDCLAIRE.COM

How sad is that. I feel like I’m being judged by a piece of software. I always knew GoDaddy’s website didn’t like me. Now I have the proof!

A recipe? On skyecade online? What will people think?!

Yeah, I was surprised I was posting this myself, but I feel it is my duty to the human race. A friend of mine gave me this recipe because MLL told her how much I love sweet potatoes. By the way, I also really like casseroles. What a coincidence? This recipe is really easy to make and it’s sooooo gooood. But be warned! It’s about as healthy as shooting heroin into your veins. Actually, heroin may be slightly better for you. Did I mention this is sooooo gooood though?

Ingredients

The Filling:

3 cups sweet potatoes (peeled, steamed, and mashed)

1 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 eggs, beat them like there’s no tomorrow

1/2 cup butter (1 stick — ouch)

The Crust:

1 cup light brown sugar

1/3 cup flower

1 cup chopped pecans (I prefer them crushed)

1/3 cup butter (melted)

Directions

Combine all the ingredients for the crust into a medium sized bowl and put aside.

Combine all the ingredients for the sweet potato filling into a large bowl in the order listed. Mix thoroughly.

Pour sweet potato mixture into a greased baking dish. (I used Pam)

Sprinkle the crust mixture evenly over the sweet potato filling.

Bake for 30 minutes on 350 degrees. Allow to set for at least 30 minutes.

Eat it warm, eat i cold, some people even melt marshmallows on top of it (in case it wasn’t unhealthy enough). Bon Appetit!

I feel like I’m living in bizarro world — reading all these stories about how people around the country are claiming that Boston officials overreacted to electronic devices scattered across the city. Are you serious? Who are these people?

Are you telling me that those devices couldn’t be mistaken for a bomb? Why not? Is it because of the funny little cartoon character on the front? The Vietcong use to stuff grenades into cute little teddy bears. A cute little teddy bear couldn’t hurt you, right?

Even if they did overreact, good! I’d rather have them overreact than not react at all. If we had overreacted to all the intelligence coming in to the country five years ago we could have possibly prevented 9/11.

Come on people, smarten up! We’re living in a dangerous world. Enough with the smug attitudes.
